Ya, it has been a really long break... most because I have shifted to a new city and was focusing more on my work. After all it pays my bills :)

But thing are set to change for the better... and I'll be updating my blog a lot more from now. Promise. Apart from reviewing some fabulous cars and motorcycles, I have been also doing some food and restaurant reviews. All of that come soon, right here.

Expect a lot more action, so strap up and hold on to your eye balls... this is going to on helluva ride!

Mahindra Ingenio in now XYLO!

Mahindra & Mahindra will launch the much talked about MPV project Ingenio with a new name --- XYLO!

This happened after in-dept research and in house customer feedback. The firm believes that the short name has better recall along with having a ring, similar to their other products - Scorpio and Bolero. Customers felt that XYLO sounded like the name of a planet, acting as a ladder to space travel and further to a spaceship. Some journalists quipped “out of this world product, is it?” while others were quick to add “hope the price is not astronomical”.

Currently the manufacturing capacity for XYLO is 25,000 vehicles. The assembly line is same as the Scorpio though the outer body (shell) will be different.

The XYLO will feature a fine tuned CRDi 2.5 Ltr engine and not the 2.6 Ltr.
The MPV will not feature Airbags at launch
4 wheel drive will be introduced 6 months post the launch
ABS will also be offered in due course
No automatic version

Suzuki 150cc bike has finally landed!

The Japanese auto major finally ventures in to the 150cc segment by launching GS150R and it just might 'Drive you crazy' or maybe not! The looks strictly for plain-Jane city commuting but boast features like an electronic speedo, LED tail lamp and integrated rear indicators. The Pulsar-meets-Unicorn tank can accommodate 15.5 litre of fuel or air depending on the rising petrol price :P

The bike boasts of a super reliable 149cc engine that can produce 13.8 BHP at 8500 RPM. One nice aspect of the bike is a six-speed transmission, thats one down five up. The GS150R is equipped with Engine Balancer Technology, and 'balancer driven gear fitted with a rubber damper', which helps in reducing vibration...though some naughty girls might not be too happy with this feature, pun intended!

Aptly priced at Rs 59,000 ex-showroom because honestly there are very few other aspects that can sway a buyers decision towards the 'GS' because the Uni, CBZ and Pulsar more or less offer everything mentioned above and below. Talking about offers, the Jap-giant will be offering the 150 in four electric...BUZZZzzz...colours – blue, orange, grey and black.

Hey guess what I spotted today? The next-on-the-cards from Skoda... the Fabia Combi. Skoda will be launching this baby early next year. I think it'll be an ideal buy for premium hatch back buyers with the extra boot space.

Ya, ya I know some people might think it's way too over priced but so are the i-pods and iphone and people still are willing to pay for comfort, fit & finish and brand.

Tata writes a letter to West Bengal

My heart aches beyond words when I think about the entire fiasco around the Nano project and West Bengal. Matter in bengal have gone from bad to worse and we remain silent spectator.

Today Tata Motors issued an advertisement in several leading newspapers of Kolkata which features a letter by Ratan Tata. The letter is about the exit of the Nano from Bengal and asks if the citizens of the state want jobs or lawlessness.

Addressing the youth the letter says: "Would you like to support he present government of Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharya to build a prosperous state with rule of law, modern infrastructure and industrial growth or a state consumed by a destructive political environment of confrontation, agitation, violence and lawlessness".
"Do they want education and jobs in the industrial and hi-tech sectors or," the letter goes on to say, "does the future generation see their future prosperity achieved on a 'stay-as-we-are' basis?"
Ratan Tata says he has written the letter in response to criticism by "vested interests" that the decision to pull out the Nano project from Bengal was "hasty" and "politically motivated".

He names Mamata Banerjee and says "confrontative actions" by her party, supported by "vested interests and certain political parties" disrupted work at the Nano plant at Singur. Sigh!

James Bond's wrecked Aston Martin DBS

This April, the $ 233,000 Aston Martin DBS used for filming the new James Bond flick - 'Quantum of Solace', fell into an Italian Lake, when an Aston Martin tech-guy driving the car during the shoot lost control... crashed through iron railing and plunged into the lake...OUCH!

Check out the picture above, the car is completely destroyed and thankfully the driver escaped with only minor injuries. If this was a normal movie then this would have meant a $233 thousand set-back for MGM (the producers). But this is a JB movie - 007 has a license to kill and thrill... and there are abundant eccentric collectors who are willing to gather all sort of garbage with astonishing price tag. Recently Daniel Craig announced that a private collector paid around a whooping $350,000 for the wrecked car or whatever was left of it.

So if I calculate correctly MGM actually made a profit over a $100,000! Freak, some people have all the luck.

Suzuki gears up for motorcycle price war

The war is hotting up. And Suzuki India is gearing up for the competitive pricing war in the two-wheeler market. The auto-biggie is already selling its 125cc 'Heat' motorcycle with a competitive price tag closer to that of a 100cc.
The firm is now planning to target volumes by debuting the 100cc domain and is working on strategies to squeeze out profits from the extremely competitive entry-level segment. Atul Gupta, VP Sales & Marketing – Suzuki said that the company is planning to launch three new two-wheelers in the next two years and at least one of them will be a 100cc vehicle.

Gupta also believes that contrary to predictions, the 100cc segment still accounts for 70% of the overall market so entering this segment would make sense for the auto major. He further adds that analysis has shown that over the last several months, the pricing in the 100cc space have narrowed down and the trend will continue.
But the biggest challenge according to Gupta will be to find out how to remain profitable, while operating in the mass motorcycle segment. Industry gurus claim that Suzuki might seek support from its well-established sister-concern Maruti Suzuki India to rationalise the cost factor.

The other launches scheduled in the near future is a premium bike, which will be unveiled later this month, and which we presume could be the Hayabusa . Also industry sources say that another new bike, which would be in the market by March next year could be the much talked about 150cc bike. While, the 100cc bike would take over a year and half to hit the Indian roads.

Honda CBF goes international

According to a post on Motoblog.com, our Honda India's latest launch CBF Stunner is on display at the Intermot Colonge Show 2008 in Germany. The CBF will boast a Electronic Fuel Injection system, though I'm not sure what good will it make to the tiny 125cc mull. All do take a closer look as this international version does feature a kickstart lever... not that the firangs will miss it.

To make life easy I tried to translate the alien language of the website and here's what Google churned out - 'The new CBF 125 is definitely an epitome of assurance and loyalty of Honda in the field of low-cost, low environmental impact. To elaborate the features, the propeller which equips the small CBF125 is a single-cylinder 4 stroke to 125cc, fueled by electronic injection approved Euro 3, capable of a power of 11 CV. In addition to this, there is compact engine, sports timing, change a 5-speed transmission and electric starter.

Amazingly, the fuel consumption has no competition — with a full 13-liter tank can go almost 600km. The frame is lightweight, responsive and demonstrates great quality traffic. The powerful front disc brake from 240mm ensures effectivity and safety. Furthermore, the front fork is 30mm in diameter, with an excursion of well-115mm. A section swing-arm rear suspension and differential easily adjustable in pre-load spring are its other features.'

Well it might be made in India but still there is no confirmation of the CBF EFI to be available in India soon... such is life my friends...

Oh so sweet...

Legendary classic bike makers Royal Enfield, recently unveiled their brand new Bullet 500 model in Germany. The bike maintains the classic looks and carries the old school charisma from the bygone era.

This new version may remind you of our age old Bullet 350 and honestly most of the specs still remain unchanged. Except the all new Unit Construction Engine with fuel-injection which by some miracle just manages to meet Euro 3 emission laws. This classic model is expected to be in the Europe Distributors showrooms by January 2009.

We in India have to keep our fingers crossed and wait...and wait...and did I mention 'wait'? Here is are some of the specs.

Honda launches V4 concept bike

Japanese auto major - Honda has launched a V4 sports bike concept at the Cologne Motorcycle Show. This is what the firm say as the bike Honda really wants to build.

The space age bike features the new V4 mill. This amazing bike has been developed to mark 30 years of the Honda V4 engine.

Honda Europe’s Boss Mark Davies said ‘This bike shows exactly what we can do and is the sort of thing that could be reality within a couple of years.’

Mitsubishi Outlander out on Indian roads

Hindustan Motors and Mitsubishi Motors launched the Outlander, the crossover sports utility vehicle in India today.
The SUV is has a price tag of Rs 20.2 lakh (ex-showroom) and it has already sold 3,00,000 units in North America, Japan, Australia and the European markets.

“The car is very fuel-efficient as compared to other SUVs and has a capability of 10.3 kilometres per litre under test conditions,” said Hindustan Motors chairman CK Birla.

The four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle is powered by a 2.4-litre 16-valve petrol engine giving the car a maximum power of 170 ps/6,000 rpm. The crossover SUV has a six-speed transmission powered by paddle shift on steering wheel.

"We launched Outlander in India in keeping with the policy of offering the latest from the Mitsubishi stable to the Indian consumers," he added. "This vehicle has all that needs to be a winner and will strengthen the Mitsubishi brand as the leader amongst premium SUVs."

Well, sir we expect a lot more models from Mitsubishi.

Honda gearing up for hybrid motorcycles

According to a Japanese English daily, automobile giant Honda is working on hybrid motorcycles & plans to launch them by 2010. The auto major will also launch smaller electric two-wheelers by 2011. Honda claimed that these bikes could be 50 percent more fuel efficient than conventional bikes.
With the success of hybrid Honda cars like the Civic, the company aims to implement similar technology to develop the hybrid bikes. In typical Japanese fashion Honda officials said that they believe they can make a tiny hybrid engine so that it can be mounted on a motorcycle frame.

I'm not bothering to put the details coz it's all around the web and I don't have the time or energy to waste repeat it all over again. It's a 1.5 l and would cost you around Rs 8.1 L onwards ex-showroom. So, let me shut up as you enjoy the amazing lines of the car... what a car!

Guy, here's some super cool news! Yamaha the sleeping giant (at least in India) have awaken from their sweet slumber by launching kick ass bikes like the R15 and the FZ16. And the this seems to be just the beginning, as they are testing waters to launch they super sexy range of scooters in India.

Hero Honda head-honchos: Sir, when do we some real action from HH?

Finally... Hero Honda insiders have confirmed the launch of an upgraded Karizma. The Zma will boast a slightly bigger mill and a much awaited FI (Fuel Injection).
Here's the down side, Hero Honda will have to wait for Japanese mother-firm Honda to launch the big-boys like the Fireblades in India first. So, be patient for a month or so but expect fire-crackers from Diwali onwards. And yes, if you have been enjoying Hero Honda's colour & sticker upgrades then there's some treat for you. As the India's biggest two wheeler maker plans to launch a 'new' CBZ Xtreme... Yawn!

Tata Nano variants

Tata motors is leaving no stones unturned to make sure the Rs 1 lakh Nano is launched on schedule, though the diesel variant will debut mid-2009.

Meanwhile, the petrol version will be available in three options. Ironic as it may sound but the cheapest car on the world has a top-end luxury variant... which will have a range of features like HVAC, power window, central locking, tinted glasses, extended reflector, front and rear fog lamps and instrument cluster with trip metre. Yup, all this for an extra Rs 20,000 to 30,000. The car will also sport body colour bumper and door handles, door lock on the co-driver side, slider with recliner, three-spoke steering wheel and double stalk combiswitch.

So how is it better than our primitive Maruti 800?
Tata Motors spokes person was quick to point out that the much awaited car has roomy passenger compartment with generous leg space and head room. With a length of 3.1 metres, width of 1.5 metres and height of 1.6 metres, and adequate ground clearance, it can “effortlessly manoeuvre on busy roads in cities as well as in rural areas. Its mono-volume design, with wheels at the corners and the powertrain at the rear, enables it to uniquely combine both space and manoeuvrability”. Hmmmm...

Like the 800, Nano will sport a multi-point fuel injection engine. “This is the first time that a two-cylinder gasoline engine is being used in a car with single balancer shaft” said the spokesman. He further enlighten “The lean design strategy has helped minimise weight, which helps maximise performance per unit of energy consumed and delivers fuel efficiency of about 20 km to a litre.”

Honda Motor has successfully developed what it claims is the world's first driver-side i-SRS airbag system. The i-SRS system far safer and reduces occupant impact by continuously staging the volume of airbag-inflating gas. Honda plans to implement the new continuously staged inflation i-SRS airbag system on the driver's side of the Life minicar to be released in Japan in November 2008.

FZ16 - Rock on Yamaha!

Goa, that's where most automobile journalist are spending their weekend. No it's not holiday but all work. They are getting together to witness the launch of the uber-cool Yamaha FZ16 tomorrow (Sept 14th).

And from Goa to some cooler things. For those who share a passion for icecreams or bikes here's some more super scoop!

The FZ-16 will sport a 153cc, 2 valve, SOHC unit, with 5 speed gearbox and 26mm CV carburettor. The 'Lord of the street' will be available in three colours — lava red, midnight black and flaming orange...now that's yummy!

Everything about this beast is chunky — from the FZ1 inspired overall design to the thick MRF tyres. The front has a wide100mm tyre that can be found in the rear wheel of most bikes and the rear wheel will have a fat 140 mm rubber - radial man – cheers! Built on a diamond frame, this new FZ-16 runs on tubeless tyres both at the front and the rear.

Now let's check the rear end.. ahem! This gets even more interesting. The forks are really meaty and I mean at 41mm they are not just thick in the segment and but even more than the Zma, 220s and and the rear mono-cross suspension provides 120mm of wheel travel... Wow!

Ya, it might sound humongous but it just weighs 126 kg, so maneuvering won't be a big concern. The bully sports disk in front and there's a drum in the rear. With completely digital LCD speedo, you can't be complaining.

The naked street fighter definitely sounds better than its predecessor – R15. When it's static, it purrs like a Puma and when it's revved up it growls!

This big cat will be out in the open tomorrow and I'm sure several worthy hunters will be on the on the prowl!

Mysterious Karizma ad solved!

We spoke of the Bollywood masala inspired TV commercial, where a chopper cruises in mid-air and a guy on a bright yellow Karizma jumps out of it. And, the teaser did succeed in conjuring up exciting images in the minds of motorcycle buffs who have their fingers crossed for a smashing new product from Hero Honda for years now...guess their fingers must have become numb by now... tch...tch...

All anxiety gone in vain... I know it sounds like your first date, but it was yet another false alarm with no confirmation of new models being launched by the country's largest bike manufacturer.

The commercial features hot bod Hrithik Roshan jump off the chopper astride a Karizma and land on a helipad. Mean while hottie Priyanka Chopra is waiting to break into an impromptu jig as over half a dozen sports personalities, yes everyone's here from our boys in blue to not-so-successful Olympians. They all dance, sing and ride the age old Hero Honda bikes around the country side. And the never ending ad goes on-and-on-and-on snore-burrrp-snore...

You wonder whats the occasion? Well, they are celebrating the Hero Honda's 25th year and brand ambassadors Hrithik and Priyanka have been roped in to be part of the celebration. Cheers to Hero Honda but the commercial has left us - biker buffs asking for more!

New Karizma coming this Sept?

You guys must have seen the new TV ad where a yellow Hero Honda Karizma jumps off a helicopter with a Karizma. The ad ends with a message - 'Wait till September 12'.

With speculations whizzing around about a new Zma, some say it will be the Karizma 250cc while others point at the much anticipated Fi version. Though most believe HH will live up to their reputation launching a face-lifted – read: striking new sticker job with untouched stock-engine! Yawn...snore...
All you know it could be just another publicity stunt for the new season of the TV reality show - MTV Roadies. After all it is sponsored by HH and no significant graphic or sticker changes were spotted on the yellow Karizma... ZZZzzz...

Toyota Corolla Altis launched

Japanese auto major Toyota on Friday launched an advanced version of its sedan, Corolla Altis, priced between Rs 10.83 lakh and Rs 12.86 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new car would come with a 1.8 petrol litre engine in three options. More details on its way...

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Vice-Chairman Vikram Kirloskar said. "This year's target is to sell 63,000 vehicles, and by fiscal 2015 we are aiming for a market share of about 10%. The Altis marks our big step toward the achievement of this goal."

The company sold about 50,000 units last year and currently has around 3% of the Indian passenger car market. It is also planning to introduce several new models in the near future to meet its target, he added. TKM plans to sell an average of 2,000 Corolla Altis a month.
"Regarding the small car that everyone has been waiting for, we aim to start production and sales around 2010 or early 2011," Kirloskar added.

Exclusive Yamaha FZ-16 details

If you've been waiting all this while to know all about the Yamaha FZ-16; your wait is finally over. Here's the inside story of the naked-street fighter...

Contrary to speculation, it will not be called FZ-15, FZ150 or Fazer-15. However, it will boast of a power-packed 153.7 CC four-stroke, air-cooled engine. The mini-Fazer will also feature state of the art – YTPS (Yamaha Throttle Position Sensor), for better throttle response and fuel efficiency and will be loaded with fully digital console with digital readout for RPM, Speed, Trip and Odo.

The uber-cool FZ-16 will roll-out on September 15th 2008 and the deliveries will commence by Oct. 2008. The bike will cost around Rs. 70,000 ex-showroom.

The A-star rolling out in October

Time for some garma-garam news. India's leading car company, Maruti Suzuki has just confirmed that it is set to launch the A-star in India right on scheduled – that's October '08. The Jap auto giant will start exports by January next year. The firm also announced that car will be priced between Rs 3-4 lakh.

The A-star will introduce Suzuki's revolutionary next-gen 'K-series' engine in India. The new star-car , if I may say so, is targeted to fight back Hyundai's i-10 assault as the i-10 has not only dented the Waron-R and the sad Zen Estilo, but the Kappa engine has kicked Swift sales below the belt.

Meanwhile, the parent of the Indian company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, has asked its subsidiary to boost its research and development (R&D) for small car engines, according to news reports.

Motown's big boys visiting India

Auto-majors from around the world are waking up to realize India's importance in the automobile industry, be it in the consumer section or the low-cost of manufacturing.

Come tomorrow and the crème de la crème of the global automobile industry would be making a stop over in India.

Apparently, the top bosses of Suzuki Motors, General Motors, Fiat Spa, Continental AG and Mercedes-Benz are arriving to take part in the annual Indian auto industry meet and would also be taking some key decisions during their stay here.

Suzuki Motor chairman Osamu Suzuki will be visiting India for the next three days for Maruti's AGM. Chairman saheb will also review some the key products of his Indian subsidiary.
Maruti is gearing up to roll out the next gen K-series engines, which would be strapped on to the 'A Star'. The compact car will be produced in India for exports to Europe and is due for launch during Diwali.

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne is also paying us (read: India) a visit and will be here till Friday.
Marchionne will be busy at the Tata-Fiat joint venture plant at Ranjangaon holding detailed meetings with Fiat officials and suppliers to assess Fiat's journey in India so far.

General Motors' president and COO Frtiz Henderson is arriving at a time when his company has just announced $200 million investment in setting up an engine and transmission facility and is also enhancing the car manufacturing capacity.
The next generation Chevrolet Tavera might be launched in Henderson's presence.

Christoph M Eisenhardt, executive vice president of Continental GmbH, and Rainer Schmueckle, CEO of Mercedes-Benz, are also expected to stop over for some Indian curry by mid-week. And if they get the time from the hot Indian curries, they might also review their future plans with officials of their respective subsidiaries here for India.

Toyota's three world premieres at Paris Motor Show

Toyota, probably the worlds largest car maker, will unveil the all-new Avensis, its European flagship model. The Avensis will project an athletic and sleek design and will feature a more powerful and cleaner engines that emit less C02. The amazing new Avensis is set to push the boundaries of the D-segment in Europe.

Next in the queue is the much awaited iQ production model, that was showcased as a prototype earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show. IQ is less than 3 metres long and the cute little car is not just the world’s smallest premium 4-seater ever built but is also a serious driving machine with CO2 emissions levels starting at a mere 99 g/km. The iQ will also offer all-round protection to all occupants with high levels of safety features, including the world’s first rear window curtain shield airbags.

The other show-stopper is Toyota’s new urban all-roader - Urban Cruiser, featuring 1.4-litre D-4D diesel All Wheel Drive (AWD). This urban all-roader will sport a unique rugged exterior design, along with high level of safety equipment.

These three world premieres will mark the beginning of a whole raft of new models and futuristic technologies from Toyota.

Hyundai’s new 800cc car on its way

Hyundai Motor India is developing a small car to compete in the Maruti dominated 800cc segment. The new car is expected to hit the Indian roads in another three to four years - that’s around 2012. Hope it’ll be worth the wait.

Mr. H S Lheem, Director - Hyundai Motor India said, a model smaller than Santro is being researched and developed jointly by Indian and Korean engineer teams at Hyderabad and Namyang. The car would compete in the 800 cc segment and would be catered to the domestic and International markets.

This ain’t great new for Maruti Suzuki, as there are just two models in the popular segment and the Indian car leader offers both of ‘em. Maruti had been comfortably selling the age old 800 car and the Alto in this segment. Guess it’s time for Maruti honchos to jump out of their comfortably warm beds and rush for an urgent meeting with the marketing and design teams.

When Mr. Lheem was asked whether the 800cc car would be pitted against Maruti 800, he quipped, "the Maruti car is an old one."

The other anticipated car by Hyundai is the ‘i20’, which the company plans to unveil at the Paris Motor Show next month. The ‘i20 would be introduced in India by December.

M&M may acquire Malaguti

After taking over Kinetic Motors, M&M may acquire Malaguti and is also looking at possibilities for a tie-up with Loncin. Malaguti is an Italian two-wheeler manufactures that makes stylish, high-tech and sporty scooters. This move will help M&M to get a slice of the rapidly growing high-end two-wheeler segment of India.

M&M has plans to take Kinetic's product portfolio to the next level, for which the tractor major is considering alliances, and acquisitions in Europe, Taiwan and China.

There are reports that M&M is considering a strategic alliance with Loncin, one of the biggest motorcycle manufacturers in China.

Hope with all these alliances, acquisitions and tie-up M&M come up with a great mix-and-match recipe... this reminds me of the yummy 'khichri' my mom makes!

Fast and Furious – The forth installment!

I've been a big fan of the Fast and Furious movie and eagerly waiting for the next episode. Luckily I cam across the trailer for the forth part of the car movie titled ‘Fast and Furious’... ya they've let go of ‘The’ from the title. Short and precise!

Here's more good new... The movie will mark the return of the first movie lead duo Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, thank God!! In a nut shell the latest F&F movie will have the duo come together to fight a common evil.

Ok, ok... before you jump out of your pajamas, you'll have to wait till next summer (read: around July 2009). So stay put and enjoy this fabulous trailer for now...

Tata may not produce Nano in Singur

A visibly disturbed Ratan Tata threatened to move Tata car plant out of West Bengal if the violence at Singur did not subside. Tata have already invested around Rs 1500 crores in setting up the plant and with plans of producing the world's cheapest car - Nano.

Tata revealed, "We are deeply concerned at the violence and disruption and at the safety of our employees, equipment and investments at the project site at Singur". Tata said that there was a general perception that Tatas were exploiting the state. "We are extremely sensitive to the needs of the rural community. We have not come to exploit anyone. We have got the land on lease and not bought it."

State opposition party Trinamool Congress led by Mamta Banerjee is hellbent to make Tata set up operations on 600 acres and return 400 acres of land earmarked for ancillary units to farmers from whom the property was acquired.

The CPM state government is adamant not to succumb to Trinamool's demands, causing a deadlock leading to tension and violence in the project area.

The question here is not 'what's gonna happen to Nano?' but 'what's gonna happen to Bengal?'

Diesel - Hyundai i10 early 2009

In the wake of 2009 Hyundai may launch their weapon of mass destruction targeting the Maruti Suzuki Swift which is already dented by the super popular i10. The i10 loaded with a diesel engine would mean no 'Swift' sales for Maruti Suzuki.

The Korean car maker is planning to launch a 1.1 CRDI, 80 horse powered i10 early next year. If they price it sensibly and pack it with goodies like all round discs, ABS, airbags etc. this could well be the last nail for Swift.
Time can only tell and we shall continue speculating...

Suzuki Lanza 150cc to land soon!

Its showtime for Suzuki India now. Like all Japanese companies Suzuki thinks ten years in advance. So the sad model line up was Suzuki's way of testing waters in India. The Jap giant will soon launch an 150cc bike with a six speed transmission with a toe and heel gear lever, a rear feature now a days as bikes trying the sporty avatar!

Sadly though it's not exactly a Gixer sibling but this could be the new power packed bike to take on the likes of Unicorn and Pulsar. Well, not really a R15 killer but this bike will target buyers who are looking for performance with mileage.

Speculations have it that the bike will be called the Suzuki Lanza 150. It does resemble the Pulsar a lot, with it's wolf-eye like headlamps. The engine reminds me of the TVS Suzuki Fiero unit. The handlebar comes with weight on both sides which might be borrowed from the Suzuki’s 125cc zeus. The bike will also boast a digital, LCD console.

This could be a blockbuster bike with Suzuki's dependable engine and smooth six speed transmission.

Abhinav Bindra clinches first gold for India in Beijing Olympics!

Don't tell me you still don't know who Abhinav Bindra is... The guy has made us proud by winning Olympic men's 10m air rifle title today. When things were looking bleak and sad for India right from the beginning of Beijing Olympics Abhinav victory came as a shot of adrenaline for the disappointed Indian fans. Brilliant stuff!! And we hope other athletes get some inspiration and grab several more golds for the country.

Cool as an iceberg Abhinav sailed from far behind to win India's long-awaited first gold medal... infact India's first ever individual gold medal. Defending champion from China Zhu Qinan was left weeping with the silver medal.

Bindra, who faced criticism for failing to deliver on the great promise he showed as a child, said he was not thinking about making history in India. In fact he said, he was "not thinking about anything" at all.

Moral of the story... It's time for India to stop thinking and start achieving!

A-star is born!

Come September and Maruti will spice up the hatchback segment with it's much awaited A-star. The A-star better known as new-age Alto in European countries, will be unveiled at the upcoming Paris auto show this October. In India the Maruti Suzuki A-star will have to live along with the Alto and Wagon-R.

The Maruti Suzuki A-star concept was showcased earlier this year in India at the Auto Expo, though the production car will not be as futuristic in designed as the concept car. With a low slung front grill like the Audi accompanied by high bonnet line and the vertically stacked headlights make the car distinct yet its not over the top. The tall-boy design assures roomy interior and legroom.

The A-star will sport a 1 liter K-series engine which can produce 65 BHP and we can expect better fuel economy. This family car will be price around Rs 4 lakh... Beware Hyundai i10!

Yamaha FZ15 – Naked and armed!

The sexy FZ15 is coming... I had uploaded some Spy Pics of this naked street-fighter bike earlier and now it has been spotted at the Greater Noida Expressway recently. Got these pic from BIKE India.

The FZ15 will boast a peppy five-speed 150cc carburetted engine, different from the R15's liquid cooled unit though. The air-cooled engine with an oil-cooler tuned towards delivering more low end torque rather than high-end performance. I love the size of the engine coz it looks quite big for a 150cc. The FZ15 should deliver around around 14bhp.

I think I am lucky, really. My work is like living my dream. It lets me meet interesting people... crazy, wacky nut-cases but interesting none the less ;)

This week I met Akis (an Automobile Journalist) and his girlfriend Vula (dancer instructor) who drove all the way from Greece to India. These amazing people are driving a Land Rover and plan to travel around the world in 800 days. Imagine Greece to Jordan to Iran to Pakistan to India and finding time in the middle to site see in Africa as well. I told you crazy but what a life.

People from different part of the world might seem different because of their cultures, looks or beliefs but this experience taught me something... in the end we are all human!!

Honda superbikes coming this year-end!

Japanese motorcycle giant Honda has confirmed to launch two sizzling new Superbike in India from its International range by the end the year end. These 1000cc and above bikes will come as Completely Built Units (CBU) and will be priced at Rs 10 lakhs approx.

There's more, Honda will also launch technically advanced 100cc bike this year, which is totally unexpected as the entry-level segment has not shown any significant growth in the recent past.

So, be prepared for several more Honda stunners!

Current Formula 1 championship leader, Lewis Hamilton stopped in Mumbai as part of a promotional tour for Vodafone after his breathtaking win at Hockenheim last weekend. The champ made a few karting laps at the Hakone Go Karting circuit.

Lewis met his fans and signed autographs as the press went totally crazy. Press photographers were jumping on top of TV crew, who in turn were trying to dodge Lewis security personals for a closer shot of the F1 driver. Utter chaos... precisely the way I like it ;)

Bollywood hottie Lara Dutta unveiled the cute Fiat 500 car in Mumbai last night. With a leaner look and fresh tan, she attrached as many shutterbugs as the new Fiat car.

Adding to the glam quotient was dancer turned actress Isha Sherwani, leaving the audience spellbound with her stupendous performance.

Master percussionist Taufique Qurashi & his gang enthralled the guests with their gig.

The evening also saw some off-beat art by new-age artist Jayesh Sachdev who drove the Rs 15 lakh and splashed colours to make the floor his canvas.

The cute round headlamp, the naughty moustache shaped logo & chrome lines on the nose and irresistibly bubbly overall appearance makes you feel like owning one. Yup, that’s the effect that Fiat 500’s timeless design has on most people.

Before I forget, the adorable two-door Fiat 500 is being launched in India today! Not that people here will be killing each other to buy one, simply because it will cost a whopping - Rs 15 lakhs. Yeah, it’s simply a repositioning effort by Fiat India to revive the company’s limping image. Seriously, the firm needs a strong dose of Viagra to give other carmakers a ‘stiff’ competition.

Fiat has a few more tricks up its sleeves, like two new world-class models --- the Bravo and more importantly the Linea. Fiat Linea is a mid-sized sedan, which should debut in September 2008. About 70 % of Linea will be locally produced which assures low cost & taxes. The sedan will sport Fiat’s tried and tested 1.3 multi-jet engines with 95 BHP. Following Linea’s footsteps will be the Grand Punto and already mentioned the Bravo.

Coming back to the micro sized Fiat500. Under the tiny little bonnet, you'll find one of these three powerful engines - a 1242cc, 69 bhp petrol, a 1368cc or 100 bhp twin-cam version of the same engine and the 1248cc, 75 bhp turbodiesel MultiJet, the same is use in the Maruti Swift diesel.
Believe it or not but you can customise the new 500 in as many as 500,000 different combinations, including body, interior and seat colour, stickers, wheel rims, bonnet trims, nudge bars and wing mirror cases. The car is 3.55 metres in length and features 7 airbags including a knee-airbag. The Fiat500 comes with a five star rating in EuroNCAP tests.

Despite all those features and the 500’s cuddlesome image and a price tag that could get you the recently launched Volkswagen Jetta or the Honda Civic, I think we’ll give it a miss for now…

Last week Audi unveiled the gleaming new A4 sedan, with its distinct LED trimmed headlights in Mumbai recently. Apart from the A4 sedan, there were oodles of glam quotient added to the event with a special fashion show and celebrities like former cricketer Ravi 'Audi' Shastri and actor John Abraham gracing the occasion. Hyundai launches new 'i10' with Kappa engine!

Hyundai India's second largest carmaker launched a new 'i10', powered by a 1.2 litre Kappa engine which can produce 80bhp and boasts an 4 speed Automatic transmission. The new i10 with all these goodies is priced from Rs 3.99 lakh ex-showroom onwards. What more do you want at that price?? The new i10 will definitely raises the bar of performance, fuel efficiency and emission.

According to Heung Soo Lheem, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) Managing Director and CEO, “This engine is exclusively manufactured only in India, which shows Hyundai's commitment to the country and to make it a global small car hub,"

Hyundai Motor has become the fifth biggest carmaker in the world and the Indian operation contributes 12 per cent to its overall global sales, he added.

Lheem said the company has already received huge export orders for the new 'i10', but the quantum of exports would entirely depend on the domestic demand.

He, however, said the current 1.1 litre engine would continue to power both 'Santro' and 'i10', but the new Kappa engine would significantly raise the bar in this segment.

Since its launch eight months back, the company has sold 1.85 lakh units of 'i10', of which 75,000 units were sold in the domestic market.

Harley Davidson buys MV Agusta & Cagiva!

American cruiser king Harley Davidson is set to buying the sexy Italian Superbike maker MV Agusta along with it's light bike manufacturing firm - Cagiva in an eye-popping $111 million (roughly Rs 476 crores) deal.

Earlier their were rumours were making the rounds about TATA Motors aiming to pick up stakes in MV Agusta, but probably Harley had a lot more to offer the Italian Super bike firm.
The MV Group is currently owned almost entirely by the Castiglioni family lead by Claudio Castiglioni. This multi-million dollar deal will transfer the ownership to Harley Davidson while Claudio Castiglioni will remain as chairman of the firm.

As long as there are no regulatory problems, the deal should be closed in a few weeks time and the priority for Harley Davidson is to speed up production after the recent months slowdown due to MV Agusta's financial problems.

Hyundai introduces a No-Petrol LPG-Electric Hybrid car!

Hyundai is geared up to produce cars that won't need petrol! Now that's what I call news, specially with the 'speculating' prices of petrol and diesel. And it's the not so popular Elantra (at least in India) that gets the unique hybrid transformation.

The Korean auto major plans to start retail sales of its first LPG-electric hybrid car July 2009. The Elantra LPI Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) is the world’s first hybrid vehicle to be powered by liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and the first to adopt advanced Lithium Polymer (Li-Poly) batteries.

FACTS
• World’s first LPI hybrid, first to use advanced Lithium-Polymer batteries
• Operation costs poised to be lowest of any hybrid in the market
• “Hybrid premium” cost can be recouped in two years through fuel savings
• Emits just 103g/km of CO2 and 90% fewer pollutants to qualify as Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle
• Initial sales restricted to Korea. Now thats not a great news :(

However, we have our fingers & everything else crossed and hope to see India's second most popular car maker to launch the LPG-electric hybrid car here eventually.

The RTR is here in its Fuel Injected avatar powered by a 159.7cc fuel injected engine, a first in this category that can pump up 15.9 ps at 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 13.1Nm at 6500 rpm. The RTR FI is TVS's attempt to strengthen its position in the premium segment, nicely priced at Rs 64,990 (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Lots of goodies on this bike like a blue backlit speedometer that introduces data logging another first in the category. Data pertaining to the last three zero to sixty timings and the last three top speeds are logged and displayed on the speedometer. This is a nice touch for the speed junky. The bike's new retractive tank scoop and open chain case ad to the already lethal looks of the RTR.

The RTR FI features a microprocessor consisting of an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) made up of sensors, a fuel pump and an injector. The ECU receives the data from sensors, processes it and delivers optimum fuel metering and ignition timing. TVS claims that the bike can reach a top speeds at 120kmph, can zip to 60kph in 4.8s and 100kph in 17.7s.

With most Japanese motorcycle giants trying to out-do each other in the high-end performance segment in India, TVS is planning to concentrating on the entry class segment. The firm is planning to launching two new motorcycles in the 100cc and 125cc and two new scooters. “We will introduce a few models this year, let’s say two scooters and two motorcycles,” said H.S. Goindi, head (marketing) of TVS Motors. “As far as our sales strategy is concerned, we will focus on the lower segment, which will help generate volume. On the other hand, our portfolio will also consist of premium bikes,” said Goindi.

Theres a lot happening in the Indian motorcycle scene. It's a little late but definitely a welcome change. What say?

When I saw this Police car I couldn't believe my eyes. I'm sure neither will you when I tell you that this is a Calcutta Police car. Yup, this spunky Tata Indigo is used by cops of Rajarhat (The new town of Calcutta).

Hayabusa's coming to town!

There's great news from Japanese auto giant Suzuki this time round. The bike that made John Abraham and probably the most popular super bike in India. The bike also happens to be the world’s fastest motorbike ever – Suzuki Hayabusa is ready for its official debut in India real soon. Suzuki has confirmed plans to the Suzuki Hayabusa (GSX 1300R) this September. The super bike in current production has speed limited to 299 km per hour. Jesus!

The good times just don't end there, Suzuki will also launch a second superbike the GXR 1000cc by November this year. God! Aren't we blessed to be living in these times?! And you were cribbing about life the other day, silly boys!

The Hayabusa sports a sexy 1340cc and would cost around Rs 11 lakh! No wonder Suzuki doesn't expect the sales of these super bike to sky rocket anytime soon...

“We will launch the bike in the first week of September,” said Atul gupta, vice-president, sales and marketing, Suzuki Motorcycle India. “The demand for big bikes is actually more of a hype. Cumulatively these bikes sell only about 400 units per annum and we don't expect volumes as well. Alongwith the GXR we will probably do 150 units per annum.” Gupta reveals, “We are nevertheless launching the Hayabusa because it will showcase our strength as a bike manufacturer. Moreover these are already available in the grey market so we might as well legalise them.”

The hunky beast FZ150 was caught being tested on road recently. Guess we don't have to wait for too long to see the FZ150 at our friendly neighbourhood Yamaha showroom.

When Yamaha FZ150 was unveiled during the Auto Expo earlier this year, it was love at first sight for all bike enthusiasts present there. After the launch of the superb R15 Yamaha is turning their attention on launching the FZ150.

Yamaha has nicely implemented the design elements of their popular naked bike FZ1 onto its miniscule cousin FZ15 . Probably the 'F' in FZ150 stands for 'Fabulous' as the naked bike with its muscular tank, chunky forks, wide rear tyre and stout exhaust, probably makes it the sexiest motorcycle ever manufactured in India.

The FZ150 will sport an engine (150cc) similar to the Yamaha's previous blockbuster the R15, but with a carburetor. Hopefully this would pump around 14 to 15 bhp, with amazing mid-range performance and should be priced around Rs 70,000.

Get ready for Honda CBR 1000cc!

The President and CEO, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd, Mr Shinji Aoyama, and the Operating Officer, General Manager, Planning Division Honda Motorcycle R&D Centre, Japan, Mr Kenji Kawaguchi, at the launch of Honda CBF Stunner motorcycle in New Delhi on Monday July 30th 2008.

Honda launched the CBF Stunner in New Delhi this Monday. The 125 cc bike will be priced from Rs 47,070 up to Rs 51,655 (ex-showroom Delhi). HSMI is also planning to introduce two more new models this year, a scooter and a motorcycle. Remember you got the news first on www.madsarmad.blogspot.com. So now the question is, will HMSI would eat into sibling Hero Honda’s market shares?
Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HSMI) said that it would not compete with its sister company, Hero Honda on volumes but by gaining recognition of its brand and customer satisfaction.

“Hero Honda is expanding and we are also expanding. I don’t think we can catch up with Hero Honda….There is no way. To us being number one does not mean scale in business or volumes, but getting recognised as an admired brand and through our customer satisfaction,” Mr Shinji Aoyama, President and CEO.

'Rock On' - Farhan Akhtar's new movie

Guys this trailer has totally blow me away (no puns intended). Its super hot! You must have a dekko. This is the latest from the makers of the 2001 cult movie 'Dil Chahta hai' (Ritesh Sidhwani & Farhan Akhtar) and its aptly called 'Rock on'. Staring Arjun Rampal, Prachi Desai in a trendy new look (contrary to the TV star's sad bahu avatar), VJ-turned-actor Purab Kohli , Channel 'V' music guru Luke Kenny and Farhan Akhtar. Yup, the director-turned-producer is now debuting in this home production as the lead actor. And whats more Farhan has also sung a song in the movie.

'Rock on' is based on four passionate friends and their unsuccessful rock band. So, where's the twist in the script – after ten years when everyone has moved on in their lives, as faith would have it their rock band get a second chance... but can they come back together as a group? Well, you'll have to wait till August for the answer when the movie is released.

Porsche's Posh New Phone

In an exclusive event held recently, Porsche launched its swanky new mobile phone - the P'9521. And yes you heard me right. Porsche – the German firm that makes super expensive, super performance cars like the 911 and the sexy Cayenne, (phew) – has now launched a super sexy mobile phone. Seems like the sports car makers want to cash on their brand name some more.

The phone is designed and produced in association with French-based Sagem Mobiles and has space-age features like fingerprint recognition, 3.2 mega-pixel camera and loads of other feature. The sexy flap phone is available in two colour options – dark brown (it looked more black to me) and white. Priced at a whooping Rs 77,000!! yes, now you can pull down your eyebrows back to your forehead.

The event was graced by actor Arbaaz Khan, model Upen Patel and hottie Kim Sharma. And yes did I mention they all were gifted a phone each by Porsche! Some people have all the luck.

Honda to launch a stunning new bike on June 30th 2008

After R15 - Yamaha's mini super bike, Mr. Dependable - Honda India, is all set to launch a brand new stunner themselves. Check the pictures on top, its from Honda India's website. It is speculated that the new bike will be based on the internationally successful CBR125s. Rumors are that it will have the following specs;

Engine: 125cc
Power: 11 bhp
Brakes: Front Disc
Tyres: Front & Rear Tubeless
Design: Half-fairing, Sporty Foot Pegs
Seat: Split-seated Design
Odometer: Digital

But I have my fingers crossed and hope they tweaked the 150cc engine which can pump up to 17 BHP with a twist of wrist.

During the Auto Expo, earlier this year the concept bike that was on display at the Honda stall. I guess it was done on purpose to get a feeler from the public about the displayed model. Compare the my Auto Expo Photos with the images from Honda India website.

Scoop! Tata Nano - Finally moving!

All of us have been chewing our nail, waiting to see the world's cheapest car on road post its unveiling at the Auto Expo this year. The engineers at Tata Motors have been putting the finishing touches to the Tata Nano. At just Rs. 1 lakh ($2,500) its like reinventing the wheel! The back light looks a little stale though, but what do you expect at that price?!

McLaren Mercedes F1 car in Mumbai

The spectacular McLaren Mercedes F1 car was unveiled by Official Mobile Partner - Vodafone at Hakone Go-Karting track on an extra sunny afternoon in Mumbai. A couple of sexy imported pit girls spiced up the otherwise dull event by waving checkered flags next to the replica Silver Arrows (read: Mercedes sport cars). This is an exact replica of the F1 car driven by ace driver Lewis Hamilton.

I was in Kolkata a few days ago and was hoping to squeeze sometime out and catch the Twenty20 action at the Eden's. But like a regular journalist's holiday this trip was super stressful. I kept shuffling between office work, over-friendly friends and completely crazy relatives. All of which kept me completely occupied from early morning to post mid-night.

One of my friend (Babu bhai) invited me to accompany him for a TV commercial shoot in Kolkata. I tagged along – as if I had an option. We reached the location and I was expecting a sad, local model trying hard to look cool. But I was stunned to see Kolkata Knights' pride, controversy king RICKY PONTING! Nope, he wasn't driving a square drive but he was riding a Suzuki Hayabusa. I placed my eyeballs back in my skull. Apparently he is the brand ambassador of Valvoline lubs and he was shooting for their new TVC. A good way to make some extra buck while (not) performing in the IPL. Hee hee heh...naughty me.

The new ad will feature him riding the sexy Busa (owned by Babu bhai) and looking for an address, which perhaps is his ancestral house. He finally finds it and enters to find a vintage bike – probably a Norton, which starts at just one go... reason?? Valvoline lubricant... wah wah... hazoor wah Valvoline kahiye!

This beast can pump a maximum power of 15.1 bhp @ 8500 rpm and has a maximum torque of 13.1 Nm @ 6000 rpm. Interestingly the bike also comes with an optional rear disc brake.

Expect to see this in your friendly neighborhood TVS showroom real soon.

After a diet conscious lunch at Subway, my good friend Aslam Memon and I decided finally to head back to office and do some work to justify our salaries. Cruising on my bike with Mumbai's lazy summer afternoon traffic. Well, we weren't really enjoying it... not the job, I meant the summer sun. (Hope my boss doesn't visit blogspot often)...

Suddenly, God personally answered our prayers and added a twist in our usually (yawn) boring lives. We spotted a draped SUV (car) trying to slip past the sparse traffic. But, who can escape the eyes of the tiger? (I mean, yours truly). I jumped off the bike's seat and the pinched Aslam, who by then had fallen off to sleep with his head on my shoulder (just a clarification, both of us are straight and will not entertain any gay offers, now or in the near future). The pinch worked like a self-start and Aslam was up and running. Both of us got back on the bike, while I explained that I had spotted a to-be-launched car with black cloth wrapped all over it to protect its identity.

Before I could explain some more my partner (strictly for dieting only) took out his new mobile and started clicking the hell out of the car. He took quite a few pics but am posting just three, coz the remaining pictures were of the occasional chicks that distracted my sincere friend and some of the traffic cops mustaches, which I am sure most of you will not be too interested in.

Later we figured out from the gurus at CAR India that this is the Mahindra Ingenio...Heh hee heh... My first spy assignment was a super hit! Atleast for Aslam and me. Thank God we have some excitement back in our mundane lives (yaawn). You guys can now address me as the agent 009.

LIVE experience of riding a Superbike...

SWOOSH! A yellow beam of light whizzes past. Probably a bike I missed a head-on with by a few inches… no time to think. Wind hitting my face mercilessly… it’s like I’m riding through a tornado. My forehead feels numb in a constant frown and I can hardly keep my eyes open… water spraying-out of them, like a fierce hailstorm, soaking my side locks and earlobes. All I can hear is the wind gushing past my ears over 200 kilometers per hour. My nostrils flare like a demon; I twist the throttle adding more fuel to the fire. The monster in the engine of my R1 begins to uncurl itself and erupts from the exhaust with a haunting roar, swallowing the road ahead…it’s fast… In just 3 seconds I zoom past a football field!

The sudden shot of adrenaline makes my head throb and my heart hammers against my chest. The vacuum sucks the butterflies in my stomach as I defy the G-force and zip past the traffic. From the corner of my eye I catch a quick glimpse of mortal road bikers with their jaws dropping… I grin! My arm burns in pain gripping the handle bar and my knees ache squeezing the life out of the tank…I hold on and take control of this beast! Gradually my machine and I merge…we become One! We take over the road… leaving everything else behind and on the way become the most powerful thing on tarmac! And all this is sheer bliss – coz it’s a guy’s thing!

A sign from God?

Everyone in office is thrilled with this extended weekend. Since Thrusday is Eid-Milad-Un-Nabi, Friday is Good Friday, Saturday's Holi and Sunday is usually a fun-day.

So excited as I was like my other office guys I rushed home to prepare for quick weekend get-way. As I was packing my rucksack to enjoy the rear yet much deserved holiday this spine chilling thought popped from no where... Is this a sign from God? Something like a wake up call... maybe he wants us to realise that we are all human and should shed our religious differences.

You don't get the connect, do you? I mean it's so well aligned. Imagine today Muslims will observe their Prophet's birthday, tomorrow Christians will celebrating Good Friday and it doesn't end there...the very next day Hindus will be enjoying Holi. We are just like the colors, different yet beautiful in their unique ways.

Amar, Akbar or Anthony... Hope we all have a blast this weekend!
